'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith continues battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he recalls the thrilling dying seconds of Swansea's stunning fightback victory against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The encounter culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses amid the pitch-side pile-on.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a powerful strike from 25 yards, and Cameron Burgess quickly hammered in the loose ball before sprinting toward the home end to revel in the moment, with supporters mobbing the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

This sealed an incredible turnaround given the team had found themselves down 2-0 deep into the final 45 minutes. During the celebrations, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan trying to get our attention and Josh Key and I were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're individuals, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

That win earned a upcoming fixture at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, a team Galbraith pushed hard at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with his former club in February. Galbraith had an excellent perspective when the underdogs took the lead in remarkable manner, with the attacker's volley from about 45 yards going in via the woodwork and the Stefan Ortega. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've given it to him for attempting the shot from that distance," says Galbraith, who started in midfield before switching to right wing-back after the team changed tactics. That meant facing off against City's winger, with whom he swapped shirts, and the winger was among the City players who praised the way Orient played positively.

Opponent's Class

"Physically they are exceptional but even the simple things and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they never miss a pass and they know how to control and slow down a game. You can feel you're doing well and then without warning they will just deliver a through ball past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be focused at all times of the game. It requires a resilient mindset and focus just to stay in the game."

New Chapter

Swansea were keen on Galbraith in January and secured his signature to bring him in in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a fans' favourite across a couple of years at his former club and has quickly replicated that in south Wales. At his previous team he joined forces once more with Richie Wellens, who previously gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at a League One side from Manchester United. Then came a loan at lower division the Manchester club, before he departed Old Trafford.

Learning Curve

"I was probably a slightly green going into professional soccer. I think numerous professionals would say under-23s football is entirely separate. Sometimes it seems the ball is moved without real physicality. You see few hard challenges. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

His progress reflects that development for both domestically and internationally, excelling for his national side, who remain in contention for the international competition next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has started the past five games, including both legs games against Germany. The ex-coach, Galbraith's ex- international manager, offered the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he manipulates the ball and his knack for a game-changing assist.

Humble Beginnings

This marks quite the ride for the kid from the neighborhood in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who used to see his parent, Stuart, also a engine room operator, play for his father's team.

Old Trafford Memory

His sole appearance for United came in the away trip in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the Kazakh capital, where they played on an artificial pitch and the stadium roof was closed owing to conditions of bitter cold. "This represented a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he says, grinning. "The week before, several youth players and I trained together, so that assisted our preparation. Just to accompany the senior squad and earn some playing time at the end was amazing."

Departing Old Trafford

What was the challenge was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he joined from Linfield aged a teenager? "This turned out quite easy, because I arrived at the moment where I understood I wasn't going to make it at the senior squad. I'm hugely grateful for the time I spent there but it got to the point where I believed I required a fresh start, drop down the leagues and play first-team games. Now I'm steadily working my way back up."

Life in Swansea

It is the early part of the afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has a commitment at 5pm: a learner's exam, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the young professional was a frequent passenger in Swansea's dubbed player transport, a small coach driven by team personnel, the transport team, which ferries players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"It's myself the Portuguese player, the Brazilian, Malick Yalcouyé – Melker Widell used to be in it but has got his license. It's pleasant to interact with the teammates but I'm planning to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and on the road. His teammate likes to pull a few pranks; he's frequently playing tricks."

Supporter Connections

While playing for his former club, Galbraith would blend in with fans on public transport after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
